About Us

Wilson Grain and Livestock is a family operation and a producer of agricultural commodities. We specialize in corn, soybeans, hay, wheat, and straw. Six Generations of Wilsons have farmed in East Central Illinois since 1872. Bill currently farms with his parents, William A. and Sandy Wilson, and his son-in-law, Ryan Bott. Bill's wife, Julie, recently retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital and now helps with office management of the farm. Bill and Julie have two daughters, Hannah, a graphic designer at Trigard Memorials, and Olivia, a loan accounting administrator at Farm Credit Illinois. Ryan and Olivia recently had a son, Rowdy, a seventh generation future farmer.

Farming Practices

  • Wilson Grain and Livestock currently plants a combination of soybeans, corn, wheat and alfalfa. We raise a 60 cow-calf herd of Angus cattle. We use 24-row equipment and strive to utilize all available technology in order to remain efficient while taking the time to pay attention to the small details which make a difference to our land and livestock.
  • Soil fertility maps, yield maps and drainage maps are used to determine fertilization rates and timing of applications. A personal agronomist is also consulted when discussing the newest available herbicides and crop fertility recommendations.
  • We use minimum tillage. All ground is deep ripped first with zero to a light working of the ground before planting. There is little or no cultivation of the crop after emergence. Track equipment is utilized during planting and harvest to lessen compaction of the soil. The only work done post-emergence and pre-harvest is the careful and critical application of nitrogen, herbicides and fungicides.
  • All grain is dried and stored at local elevators.

  • Landlords are contacted routinely to assure they are provided up to date information and apprised of future plans.
    • All rental ground is maintained to assure maximum harvest potential.
    • Drainage is routinely assessed for improvement potential.
    • Soil quality management is addressed annually.
    • Roadsides are mowed on routine basis.
    • Harvest bushels/acre and planting intentions are reviewed annually.
    • Drone footage of land is provided on periodic basis.
